(Gray News) – A reminder regarding the drugs used to treat high blood pressure has been developed for the fourth time, targeting more variants of the generic losartan produced by Torrent Pharmaceuticals.
A Torrent losartan product recall was released in December. An update released on Thursday by the Food & Drug Administration has broadened it to include dozens more.
Other booster extensions were announced in January and March.
For a complete list of affected products, visit the FDA website.
The recall involves losartan potbadium tablets and losartan / hydrochlorothiazide potbadium tablets. The pills have been reported to contain an impurity known as NMBA.
"Torrent only recalls many products containing losartan containing more NMBA than the acceptable daily intake levels published by the FDA," said the agency.
According to the FDA, losartan is used to treat hypertension, hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy and to treat nephropathy in type 2 diabetics.
The FDA advises patients taking these medications to continue taking them until they can find an alternative.
"The risk of harm to the patient's health may be higher if the treatment is stopped immediately without alternative treatment," the FDA said.
