LPG Leader urges teachers to engage in complementary activities

Mr. Percival Kofi Akpaloo, leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), urged teachers to engage in additional activities in order to earn additional income, “because teachers have flexible working hours”.

Mr Akpaloo, who was also the party’s presidential candidate in the 2020 general election, noted that teachers close early in the week and also have weekends, holidays and vacations available to them and should make good use of them. .

He advised teachers not to do everything for the money, but to view the time they have as an opportunity to care for their children.

The world celebrated World Teachers ‘Day on Tuesday October 5, 2021 with the theme: “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery,” to celebrate those working in education and to recognize teachers’ tireless efforts to maintain classes and ensure minimal disruption to student learning during the outbreak of the pandemic.

Mr. Akpaloo, speaking on the sidelines of the Tema Regional Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Tema Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Road Accident Prevention Campaign Platform of the Police Department of Ghana praised the work of teachers.

He also encouraged public sector workers not to depend on their wages alone, but to make efforts to save and have an investment mindset as a way to make more money with returns.

He said: “If you get paid 1,000.00 GHC, try to save 200.00 GHC”, highlighting this weight of your salary, save 20% and later convert your savings into an investment and that’s how you will become a millionaire.

On the issue of the pay rise in the public sector, he noted that whether it was 4, 10 or 20 percent it was not important, what was rather important was productivity.

He said: “When you go to a public sector and you are looking for a service, it will take you years before they provide you with that service, while you are paying for it, the attitude towards work has to change in the public sector “.

According to Akpaloo, although every worker deserves a good salary, they must also give back to the system.

He said there was a need to overhaul the public sector because the system was making people lazy, “because he has an MBA or a doctorate, let’s give him that job, until he does nothing while someone there with a lower university degree is actually hired for work but not recognized. “
