French start-up Lunchr has raised $ 34 million (30 million euros) in Index Ventures, which is also being raised by existing investors Daphni, Idinvest and Kima Ventures. The company had already raised 13 million dollars 7 months ago (11 million euros).

Lunch focuses on the meal vouchers. Originally, employees received paper vouchers at the beginning of each month. But meal voucher companies, such as Edenred or Sodexo, also offer an alternative to paper vouchers. You can get a payment card to pay for all or part of your food with the help of a card reader.

Although it's a good idea on paper, many restaurants and supermarkets still do not accept meal voucher cards because you need to update your devices. Apps do not work as well, so it's hard to know if you have any money left in your account.

Lunchr wants to offer a better experience. And it starts with a map that works in more places. Restaurants have nothing to do as long as they already accept good paper meals. Lunchr currently manages 200,000 places in France.

The company also benefits from the fact that a company will switch everyone on Lunchr, not just some employees. This means that everyone has a Lunchr account, the Lunchr app and a Lunchr card.

That's why you can also use the Lunchr app to order food in your office. Other employees can add items to your order and an employee can pick up the order for everyone. Lunchr has negotiated discounts with restaurants – you get a discount on big orders. On average, people who order food through the app benefit from an 18% discount.

With today's funding, the company wants to attract 200,000 by the end of 2019. Redbull in France, LeLynx.fr, Spotify in France, Qonto and Payfit already use Lunchr.

While Lunchr competes with large companies, 85% of meal vouchers in France are still paper vouchers. Companies will consider switching to payment cards in the coming years, which is a great opportunity for Lunchr.
