The first five episodes of Lupine may have ended with suave protagonist Assane Diop (Omar Sy), but the outlook is much brighter for fans of Netflix’s hit international series.
The streaming service has already confirmed that Season 1, Part 2 – comprising five more episodes – will launch this summer, but series co-creator and co-writer George Kay has exclusively confirmed to RadioTimes.com that a second season is also in preparation.
“We’re telling the story, and I’m sure it will come,” Kay said. “We are actively telling the story with real confidence that it will happen, as the reaction to the first five episodes [of season one] would suggest that we have every chance that [season two] would come next year… unless something went completely wrong!
“Things are going well, basically, and we’re storytelling, and Omar is really involved in terms of character – he’s really active and very sharp with the scripts and the journey from Assane to. through these stories. So yes, it is exciting. It’s exciting to build more on it, to muddy the waters and to create more conflict and complications. “
The fifth episode of Lupine ended on a cliffhanger, with Sy’s Assane – a thief gentleman inspired by the stories of Arsène Lupine by author Maurice Leblanc – coming face to face with police detective Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) , the only man to make the link between Assane / Lupine and his fictitious counterpart.
Fans of the series have speculated that, rather than arresting Assane, Guedira could team up with our hero to take out the series villain Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre), who is holding Assane’s son hostage, Raoul (Etan Simon).
“Well that would be fun, for that to happen!” Teased Kay. “When it comes to Assane’s priorities all I would say is if I was Assane I would do whatever it takes to get my boy back so you stop at nothing and any accomplice is good. in this situation.
“But also, the thing about Guedira as a character is… he knows that capturing Assane would be a big career step, but at the same time he’s a fan of Lupine and he recognizes his hero in his career, his prey, so he has an enigma of his own, I would say.
“So this cliffhanger… it’s obviously ‘What does Assane do next?’ But [it’s also] “What does Guedira do next?” – I think it would be silly to say more because it would spoil the fun, but there is a long way to go.
Kay confirmed that the second part of the first season “will answer a lot of questions” posed by the first season – including, presumably, the truth about how and why Assane’s father, Babaker (Fargass Assandé), was falsely. accused of robbing his employer Pellegrini – but added that the new episodes will “launch a little more [questions] how long we are going ”.

The second part will also continue to explore Assane’s past and her first interactions with ex-partner Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) and best friend Benjamin (Antoine Gouy), through flashbacks. “TThe whole plan is that we are dealing with two parallel worlds – so we develop the backstory, always catching up on how they got to be in the present, but that doesn’t mean the backstory can’t have its own plots and its own problems and its own problems.
Thankfully, Assane’s relationship with his companion dog, the lovable J’accuse, which he inherited from the journalist cross, is another dynamic that will continue to be the focus of attention.
