Mr. Mac Manu made this suggestion during an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the 70th New Year Conference and School of the University of Ghana.

He added that the Electoral Commission (EC) is currently responsible for overseeing the activities, programs and organization of political parties in the country; However, the EC had the onerous task of overseeing its main activities: elections, election monitoring and election supervision throughout the country in all public elections.

He noted that this gave them at least the time to focus on the oversight tasks of political parties.

"As stipulated by the law on political parties, they should also submit their financial statements to the EC There is a gap in this area of ​​our political spectrum.

"We must have an arm different from that of other countries to oversee the overall duties and obligations of political parties, so that they can be feared at any time, they will be straightened out or restored," said M Mac Manu.

Mr. Mac Manu, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA), said that during the last 26 years of the establishment of the Fourth Republic, it is not the only way to do so. had never seen the EC sanction or dissolve a political party, but many of them had become capricious; adding that they may not have the time to do it.

The 70th edition of the Congress and New Year's Conference on "Building Strong Institutions for the Consolidation of Democracy in Ghana" was organized by the School of Continuing and Distance Education of the College of Education and University of Ghana, in collaboration with the Ministry. local government and rural development.
