Tuesday, January 19, the late Mac Miller would have been 29 years old. Many of his close friends, family and fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the rapper on his birthday.
Juicy J tweeted: “RIP Mac Miller, we miss you.” Desus from “Desus and Mero” wrote: “HBD Mac Miller. The puppy keeps your name alive. In 2018, Mac tragically died in his Los Angeles home from an accidental drug overdose due to “mixed toxicity” of cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol. Three men were indicted and charged with trafficking counterfeit drugs which led to his untimely death. The three men were charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances which resulted in death.
Since his death, the late rapper has been nominated for a posthumous Grammy Award for his fifth studio album, Swimming. Last year his team released their posthumous debut album titled Circles. The LP debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was followed by a deluxe release that included two new songs.
Last summer, the Mac team announced that they were planning to release a tribute project that their fans could be a part of. “The Mac Miller team is working on an untitled project to celebrate Malcom and his music,” the statement read. “His art has touched so many lives, in so many ways.”
They have also set up a toll-free phone number so fans can leave their personal stories, wishes, and thoughts to use for the project untitled. Additional details on the project have not been made public. “Your offers are deeply appreciated,” the statement adds.
