Back in the early days of YouTube, Machinima spearheaded much of the content on the gaming site. The chain has signed many popular YouTubers, broadcast a vertiginous number of videos and gathered more than 12 million subscribers. Machinima remained one of the largest YouTube channels, but on Jan. 18, it removed all of its videos, erasing more than 10 years of content.

At the time of writing, the reason why Machinima decided to discontinue its channel is probably related to its reorganization as part of Otter Media, following the acquisition of Time Warner by AT & T. Some creators of Machinima were transferred to Otter Media's full screen after this happened, while others were dropped during the transition.

None of the entities involved in Machinima has published commentary on the situation. However, feedback from content creators indicates that they have not received any warning before their videos are shown. It is also unclear if there are plans to restore the videos, which means they could be lost forever.

Many YouTubers may have fond memories of Machinima, but the company has not been spared by its controversies. There have been some famous cases where Machinima is bumped against its content creators, like Ben Vacas, who signed a life contract with the company. This meant that Machinima had the right to advertise all Vacas videos for the rest of his life. The creators also called Machinima for misleading them and for their lack of transparency about its advertising and monetization practices.

In addition to the shameful connections between Machinima and various content creators he has partnered with over the years, he was also surprised to pay YouTube influencers for creating videos that praised Xbox One. This resulted in an investigation by the FTC which in turn saw a number of new restrictions imposed on Machinima.

Regardless of the controversies in which Machinima was found, many will no doubt be sad to see years of the game's history erased without notice. In the meantime, we will update this article if Otter Media or another person involved issues a statement about it. We will also closely monitor any changes made by the Machinima YouTube channel.
