Madison never returns to ‘Fear the Walking Dead’

Everyone wants you to think there’s a chance Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) will one day return. Fear the living dead.

Don’t believe them.

Don’t believe AMC when he teases a Madison comeback. They did it with the painted trees. They did it as recently as last Sunday’s episode, when Alicia decided it was time to return to the zombie infested stadium where Madison died.

Ahem, where Madison “died”. After all, we have never seen his body! She’s only been gone two seasons. She could come back … right?

Not bad. Stop listening to people who want you to think this.

Like all the headlines we’ve seen before this last episode of Fear. Stuff like “Fear The Walking Dead Has Finally Brought Back a Missing Character in the Midseason Finale” from ComicBook.com and similar titles from a lot of other sites.

Clickbait! Everything is done to make you believe that Madison is coming back because we haven’t seen his body.

Yeah no. I hate to tell you, folks, that doesn’t happen.

Would you return to Fear the walking dead if you were Kim Dickens? I know in good faith that she was not happy with the way her character was killed and swept under the rug. Would you be satisfied with this? Would you like to get back into the dumpster fire that this show has become?

Dickens has other gigs. She has better things to spend her time on than the kind of mind-blowing reviews critics are handing out on this show. Or, well, at least those I distribute.

Other reviewers – the few who still cover this topic – do so too, although there are some notorious fangirls writing “reviews” about Fear again.

And hey, whatever. There is a market for this stuff. I mean, you don’t have to be critical to be critical, right?

But Kim Dickens doesn’t need Fear the living dead. It’s not the same show anymore. It’s not about the Clarks anymore and frankly I don’t think it ever will be, even though they fired Alicia to a star role rather than continue to sideline her. Nick is dead. Frank Dillane is long gone. I’m not even sure how old Dickens is Dead wood colleague, Garett Dillahunt, returns after dropping June a few episodes. I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to go out either.

I know some of you are desperate to get Madison back. I understand that. She was never my favorite character but she was the central figure of this series, the glue that held her together, and a character that I could have seen sliding down to the dark side very easily, which could have been fascinating. But what you’re really waiting for is a return to a show that is long dead.

Whatever Fear it’s just not the one that ended when the dam exploded in the Season 3 finale. This show is as dead as Nick Clark. AMC and the new showrunners killed him as surely as Charlie killed Nick. They had the chance to revive it and turn it into something new, but even if they had done a good job with it, it still wouldn’t be the show you remember. This show is gone and Madison is not coming back.

And hey, even if I turn out to be wrong, I can’t imagine a scenario where Madison’s comeback would work or lead to a better show or a return to stardom. This does not happen.

It’s time to let go of the ghost.
