Mahama informs diplomatic missions about violence during the Ayawaso by-election

Former President John Dramani Mahama met Wednesday with the diplomatic corps to inform him of his position regarding the vile attack of January 31 against innocent Ghanaians by thugs of the New Patriotism Party (NPP).

Alongside National President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Deputy Minority Leader, James Avedzi, a former National Security Minister, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, and members of NDC's top rank, President Mahama's view that the NPP's self-defense group under the authority of the presidency was criminal and was to be prosecuted.

The meeting retraced the story of the NPP's introduction of vigilante groups, their training and the dangerous decision to arm the thugs and clothe them as alleged national security agents.

Diplomats watched many videos of barbaric attacks, gun violence, unchallenged confessions of responsibility by a state minister to the presidency, Bryan Acheampong, as well as videos of previous outings of the groups. Government Self-Defense, Delta and Invincible Forces.

Mr. Mahama said that even if violence is sponsored by the state, it is not the true image of the democratic culture enjoyed by Ghanaians.

"The violence took a different form, sponsored by the state because those who participated were brought in by the state. They were armed until the teeth. they unloaded weapons and injured several people. Unfortunately, this is not part of Ghana's democratic culture. It was a day of shame for Ghana because Ghana has always been considered a model of democracy in Africa, "he said.

The former president also said that since the Ayawaso West Wuogon election saga, he had few words to answer some of the questions asked by leaders of other African countries who regard Ghana as a democracy.
