The Ambbadadors of the United States of America and Japan paid a courtesy call on former President John Dramani Mahama.
The new US ambbadador, Stephanie Sullivan, on Thursday called Mr. Mahama to officially run for office.
The two men discussed issues of common interest to Ghana and the United States and recounted their meeting many years ago when Ambbadador Sullivan was head of state policy at the US Embbady. In Accra.
Discussions included the recent violence and deployment of state-sponsored self-defense groups during the partial election of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
The Ambbadador of the United States recalled that Ghana was a model of peace and security and urged the former President to continue to support efforts to maintain peace throughout the country.
He stressed the need to totally ban the formation and deployment of political paramilitary groups and self-defense groups such as those deployed by the ruling party last Thursday.
He also badured the US government through the ambbadador of his commitment to peace and security.
On Friday, when Japan's ambbadador, Tsutomu Himeno, called Mr. Mahama, they discussed insecurity in the by-election and the 2020 general election.
Ambbadador Himeno conveyed the warm congratulations of the Prime Minister of Japan and recounted the long-standing and personal relations of John Mahama with Japan.

He also reaffirmed his country's commitment to strengthening its cooperation with Ghana and to expeditiously execute ongoing projects, regardless of the political party in power.
Mr. Mahama congratulated Japan for its support and recalled the successful restoration of the yen loan portfolio as a result of his personal interventions and his talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
He reminded the Ambbadador of the Volivo Bridge on Lake Volta, the first project whose implementation had been approved as part of the yen loan portfolio.
Mr. Mahama also thanked Japan for its 1.6 billion yen financial support for the construction of an advanced research center on infectious diseases at the Noguchi Memorial Institute in Legon.
The former president lobbied for the creation of the center following the Ebola virus disease that shook the West African subregion in 2014, following which Japan signed the center's agreement during the of a state visit to Tokyo of President Mahama in 2016.
They also discussed other issues relating to the road connecting Takoradi to Kumasi, the extension of the Tema highway, the Edubiase bridge and other projects.
Ambbadador Himeno said most of the projects would be completed and commissioned by 2020.
