The ruling regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) president, Ashanti, downplayed the sheer importance of former President John Mahama's victory in the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Bernard Antwi Boasiako claimed that he (Mahama) had paid every 20 GH delegate to get his vote in the flag-bearer elections, which were hotly contested.

John Mahama won a convincing victory in the presidential primaries on Saturday, garnering more than 95% of the total valid votes cast, allowing his candidates to tackle the 5%.

Many political experts have described Mahama's victory as a threat to the ruling party because of his charisma ahead of the 2020 general election.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako said Monday that Mahama's victory was artificial.

He said his campaign team bought all the votes because she knew most of the NDC members would have voted against him.

President Wontumi, as it is popularly called, claimed that some members of the NPP who happened to be on those who share money had their share.

"My people spoke to me about the money and I asked them to get it because it 's the money stolen," he added.

President Wontumi said that Mahama's victory has made him the happiest man in the world since the 2020 elections will be a success.
