The late Major Mahama
A prosecution witness at the trial of 14 people accused of killing Major Mahama in Dekyira Obuasi, in the central region of the country, explained to the High Court in Accra how the deceased soldier had worn several marks of violence.
Detective Sergeant Solomon Sakyimah told the court that Major Mahama was lying motionless with his nose covered with blood when police went to the scene where he was lynched.
The witness told the court that he and other police officers had seen the injuries resulting from the violent attack and said that they had used a stick to remove the t-shirt that was wearing the deceased person.
"Corporal Kofi Sarpong used a stick to remove the t-shirt from the body. there were multiple signs of violence with blood running from the nose and mouth but he was not moving, "said the witness.
The court also learned how the late Major Mahama had fired an Amash in the back leg during the attack.
"We met this young man called Amash. When we asked him how he was hurt, he replied that the man (Major Mahama) had shot him. We met at the crime scene when he wanted to take a gun because he thought he was short of ammo.
Investigator Sakyimah, an investigator and stationed at Denkyira Dominase, told the court that he had taken pictures of the crime scene with other police officers and handed them over to Denkyira Obuasi's agents. since the incident was on their territory.
He also said that later in the evening he had learned that the deceased was an army officer and not a thief, as originally thought.
After her deposition in chief, the court presided over by Judge Mariama Owusu was adjourned for today.
