A prosecution witness in the case of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama stated that he did not believe that the deceased soldier was an armed robber when he saw his corpse after his lynching.

Testifying in front of a high court in Accra, Detective Sergeant Solomon Sakyi-Armah said he could not draw any conclusions because he had little information about the deceased.

The witness made this statement on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 during the cross-examination of one of the defense lawyers, Mr. Anim Addo.

"At that time, I had no information about him and so I could not infer that he was an armed robber.Det said Sgt. Sakyi-Armah.

The prosecution witness was one of the first police officers to report to the scene after the military's lynching.

The senior police officer was stationed at Denkyira Dumenase, not far from Denkyira Obuasi, where the incident occurred.

Judge Mariama Owusu, who presided over the judge presiding over the hearing, said that on May 29, 2017, he was at the police station when he received a call from a friend telling him that There was an armed robber in Denkyira Obuasi.

Det. Sergeant Sakyi-Armah explained that after arriving at the scene with other police officers, Major Mahama had already been lynched and burned.

He added that he saw about 40 people on both sides of the road where the incident occurred.

The late Major Mahama died in May 2017 after being lynched by residents of Denkyira Obuasi, the current New Denkyira, suspected of being an armed robber.

The death of the deceased soldier provoked a public outcry, with many Ghanaians condemning the act of people's justice.

He was later buried in a state and President Akufo-Addo created a fund to support his two children, which he had fathered before his untimely death.

Meanwhile, 14 people are being tried for conspiracy to kill the military officer.
