ENSURE THAT FAIRNESS IS ABSOLUTE IN THE SAGA OF THE POLICE, THE DRIVER AND ITS MATE.

The news of a viral video showing a fight between a police officer and a commercial driver and his driver's badistant became viral a few days ago, causing public outbursts and outright convictions.

While we, in Copec, we join all our efforts to condemn the open fight and apparent nuisance generated by this type of open confrontation, it is also commendable that the law is enforced as quickly as possible.

Nevertheless, we believe that the law should in no way be falsified in the manner that pleases anyone, be it an officer in uniform or the driver and his companion.

Several eyewitnesses reported that the video went viral and that the driver and his companion were arrested by the police, highlighting the rude and inappropriate behavior of the police officer suspected of having initiated or triggered the fight by repeated slapping. and hitting the driver in said trotro after having stopped to stop for having jumped a traffic light.

This driver and his companion were then dealt with in court within 48 hours, even without legal representation, although the officer, who allegedly initiated or started the slap and "beatings" or "badault" is now a hero and walked freely because he was in uniform.

While much of the police force in which Ghanaians and the law invest trust and logistics in the protection of human lives continues to work very hard, with pbadion and professionalism, in carrying out their tasks, a few also enforce laws that are contrary to Ghanaian laws and will do everything in their power to sometimes show the brutal "power" to many of the poor and defenseless in society.

It was not long ago that innocent Ghanaians were shot dead and killed under all sorts of excuses by armed robbers, which turned out to be completely false, even if the lives of these 7 young men had already been ruined.

This has led the President of the Republic himself to calm down after this barbaric act, but at present, the Ghanaian public is not aware of sanctions that would have been applied to the officers who committed themselves to this barbarism and provoked happy behavior.

Another police officer, less than a fortnight ago, also decided to take control of the laws by brutally attacking a Ghanaian Times reporter after his own unlicensed motorcycle was crushed in a car carrying these reporters and the police reported that they had been killed. Subsequent confrontation left these journalists seriously injured and even forward to "lock up" the wounded for daring to ask questions and register a police officer without law.

Cases of police brutality and excesses committed against these truck drivers abound and we believe that the police administration should carry out an urgent cleaning internally in order to eliminate immediately some of those unsuitable who continue to bring shame and integrity to the integrity of the estimated police service. .

A responsible House, like ours, will certainly not tolerate lightness and will not remain indifferent to a key part of our membership, competently represented by the Chair of the GPRTU at the Council level, continues to suffer from the excesses of injustice and further processing of some uniform officers.

We hereby request the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Republic to ensure that genuine and thorough investigations are immediately conducted and to ensure that nothing is other than a Absolute fairness prevails in this case which is duly captured on video, in an apparent manner. public brawl between an officer who should obviously know better, even in law enforcement, but rather deciding to use "slaps" on citizens for road offenses, as this goes to the # 39 against what the law dictates.
