OKYEAME KWAME HALL Okyeame Kwame

Okyeame Kwame, rapper and Ghanaian tourism ambbadador, spoke out against the government's plan to make French the second official language of the country.

According to Kwame, this decision is disrespectful of Ghana's pride and culture.

"French as a second language is disrespectful to our pride and culture. It's bad enough that our mother tongue is the language of another person, "he said on Twitter.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, had already stated during the Francophonie Week 2019 that the government was ready and determined to make French its second language.

"We believe that the teaching and deep learning of French will benefit Ghana because we are bordered by three French-speaking countries; Togo, Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire, "said the Foreign Minister.

But Okyeame Kwame is unhappy with the decision that was made: "What's wrong with one of our languages as mother tongue?

The argument of using a local language as the official national language has been in effect for a long time.

Some people have suggested using Twi but the argument is which language would represent the entire nation.
