23 (Xinhua / GNA) – Malawi's main opposition leader quickly took the lead
The elections held on May 21, announced Wednesday the country's electoral body.

Lazarus Chakwera,
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) won 533,217 or 37.65% of the vote.
the votes counted so far of 1,784 out of 5,002 polling stations, according to
Judge Jane Ansah, President of the Malawi Electoral Commission.

It is closely followed
outgoing President Peter Mutharika with 524,247 votes or 37.01%,
while Vice President Saulos Chilima of the United Transformation Movement is
third position with 293,978 votes or 20.76 percent.

The electoral leader
urged political leaders to refrain from making unbridled statements about the elections
results because the electoral body is responsible for publishing the results.

From her,
peace during the vote should be allowed until the whole process
is finished.

The final results are
expected to be announced within eight days of vote, Malawi report
