While many couples have chosen to opt for drive-through weddings due to the pandemic, a Malaysian couple grabbed the headlines after their ceremony greeted around 10,000 guests in cars.
Thousands of people attended a wedding reception for the son of a former minister in Putrajaya without getting out of their vehicle, to comply with Covid-19 health protocols.
The guests simply waved and passed the hosts of the event, Putrajaya Tengku Deputy Adnan Tengku Mansor, his wife, his son Tengku Muhammed Hafiz Tengku Adnan and his wife Oceane Cyril Alagia, the Appointed news agency reported.
The influential politician and former cabinet minister proudly shared images of many passing cars on his official Facebook page.
“Thank you all for your understanding and your respect for all drive-thru procedures without getting out of the vehicle. My family and I are so grateful and appreciate all of your support, ”he wrote online.
According to The Straits Times, the family set up a special stage in front of the Palace of Justice, the main court complex in Putrajaya, where the newlyweds sat in traditional attire to greet guests.
“The concept of drive-thru was my father’s idea. He wanted my marriage to be celebrated by all the inhabitants of Putrajaya because they are also my family while I grew up here, ”said the groom. Daily Star.
According to BBC News, it took almost three hours for all of the guest cars to cross the main boulevard.
A day after the big celebration, the politician was convicted of a $ 500,000 (£ 370,000) corruption case and sentenced to a fine and 12 months in prison, according to the report.
Previously, a couple of Indian descent in the UK made headlines after hosting a drive-thru wedding reception for around 250 guests.
