Patrick Obeng Hamza, a 25-year-old man, is reported to have died after competing in akpeteshie beverage contest in Ntankoful, Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
Akpeteshie is an alcoholic drink distilled locally.
The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday around 11:15.
The deceased would have taken about two Fanta bottles of this strong liquor.
According to sources, Hamza, an unemployed person, collapsed while taking another "quarter" of the drink.
His opponent, who was said to be unconscious, was resurrected after being forced to drink kenkey mash by his colleagues.
Eyewitnesses told Takoradi-based Connect FM that even though Obeng Hamza had been rushed to a clinic in Ntankoful, he was pronounced dead on his arrival.
