We came across the story of a man sentenced to life imprisonment at the age of 15.
The man is known as Joe Ligon and from what we understand he was sentenced to life imprisonment at the age of 15, however, he was released after turning 68.
He was in a Pennsylvania prison and as we speak he is now 83 years old. He was convicted of participating in a series of robberies and assaults with a group of drunken teens that left two dead in Philadelphia in 1953.
He was found guilty in a court hearing on two counts of first degree murder, as he also admitted to stabbing at least one of the eight people stabbed that day.
However, his lawyer said his client claims to have never killed anyone and according to him he said;
“The child who committed these crimes in 1953 no longer exists. The person who was released from prison in 2021 is 83, has grown up, changed and is no longer a threat.
He largely reimbursed the company for the damage and harm he caused. And now it is normal that he spends the last years of his life in freedom.
Speaking with CNN, the man said;
“I am an adult now, I am no longer a child. Not only am I a grown man, but I am an old man and am getting older every day.
It was also revealed that Ligon had rejected a clemency option offered to him and his accomplices in the Governor of Pennsylvania.
In 2017, he also rejected another offer of parole, saying the option would not give him the freedom he wanted after decades in prison.
His lawyer said;
“The state parole board likely would have released him, but on condition that he was under their supervision for the rest of his life.”
He chose not to apply for parole under these conditions.
