Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City have doubts over defender Harry Maguire's decision, while Fox want more than £ 90m for central defender, sources said Metro.co.uk.

Pep Guardiola has identified the English international as a substitute for Vincent Kompany, who has announced his departure from the club after a 6-0 win over Watford in the FA Cup final.

Matthijs de Ligt, star of Ajax, was thrilled by City, but it is thought that the Dutchman has already agreed to join Barcelona and City does not want to be dragged into an epic they can not win.

United has not lost hope regarding Ligt, but privately communicated the same message as City, who thinks the 19-year-old is heading to Camp Nou.

The two clubs will therefore focus on new targets and Maguire is at the top of the list of alternatives.

Jose Mourinho wanted to sign the former Hull City star last summer, but Ed Woodward did not want to sanction a £ 75m sale to the defender, saying it was an inflated price based on a handful of impressive performances for England at the World Cup.

However, Maguire's performances this season have dispelled any claims that his World Cup form would be lightning, and he caught Guardiola's attention in an impressive performance in the Foxes' 1-0 loss to Etihad in May.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not give priority to a move for a central defender this summer, believing instead that other areas of his team needed more urgent attention.

But the Norwegian has learned that the club would sanction a world record for a central defender with the "good profile".

However, although Maguire has his admirers at Old Trafford, Leicester's £ 90m valuation is considered excessive and the Red Devils are likely to look for a cheaper alternative.

Similarly, City are only willing to pay Maguire 70 million pounds, but will not be required to pay a ransom since Guardiola is ready to match John Stones with Aymeric Laporte the next term.
