Manchester United's new boy, Daniel James, could not stop Wales from sinking 2-1 in his European qualifying match in Croatia.
United confirmed Friday that it has signed a contract to sign James to Swansea after missing Thursday's training in Wales for a medical examination in Carrington,
James fought for service as the hosts dominated possession of the ball in Osijek and was unable to get his second goal since he only won his third international cape.
But there were still encouraging signs in the 21-year-old, who had been deployed on the left side of a manager by manager Ryan Giggs and replaced by Rabbi Matondo 10 minutes from the end.
Although United fans were unanimous in congratulating James, most were eager to focus on the positive aspects of their first summer session.
Fans said James looked "exciting" and "did some good things," while acknowledging that he "had barely been allowed to give the ball" while Wales was struggling to control possession of the ball.
His best time of the match came shortly before half-time when he put a dangerous center that Ben Davies had not quite packaged at home.
This earned him to be commended for "serving beautiful crosses" and to be labeled "already the best club rider" after having "beaten a better center than all our wingers over the last year" .
James's expectations are already very high. A fan nicknamed him the "next Ryan Giggs" and expects that he "will give more than 20 goals to Rashy (Marcus Rashford)" next season.
Giggs recently supported James as a success in his former club – and told him to play with pleasure in the "biggest club in the world".
Giggs said, "If that happens, United becomes an exciting player who, I know, will be thrilled by Man United fans.
"It's fantastic for everyone, for Dan, for Manchester United and a good deal for Swansea City.
"I would say it's a pleasure, it's the biggest club in the world, so take advantage of the challenge.
"He could go because of what he has done in the past year, especially in the last six months.
"Be yourself, do not be anybody else, and everything will be fine.
