Man Utd: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will spend money "in a good way"

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a three-year contract as Manchester United manager

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said he would not spend for that money this summer.

Solskjaer was confirmed as a permanent manager on Thursday, facing immediate questions about whether he would refresh his team for next season.

Norway's predecessor Jose Mourinho spent £ 360 million to recruit new players, recovering only £ 75 million.

But Solksjaer said that he would not be in too much of a hurry on the transfer market: "We will not spend money just to spend money".

"United is a club that has money, but people who know me know that I'm going to make good use of it," he added on Norwegian television.

Among the large purchases of Mourinho, only Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku had a significant impact. Some of them – Alexis Sanchez is an excellent example – hardly make a positive contribution.

With a three-year deal valued at around £ 21m, Solskjaer will be under pressure to make United a Premier League contender.

They are already closely linked to a number of potential targets, including young English Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

In addition to potential transfers, United is working on a number of contract renewals.

Talks with goalkeeper David de Gea and English striker Marcus Rashford, whose contracts go up until 2020, are progressing.

United hopes that both will eventually accept new terms and are considered important members of the Solskjaer team.

The Spanish duets Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are less clear.

The two could leave for nothing in the summer and there are rumors that Herrera has already agreed to join Paris St-Germain, although they have been downplayed by sources close to the former midfielder Athletic Bilbao, 29 years old.

And Solskjaer made it clear that he wanted Herrera to stay.

"Let's hope the club and the player find an agreement," he said.

"Ander has been very good since I came in. We will have a strong team next season and we want the best players."
