With a ruthless spin and finish, Marcus Rashford immediately began to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his confidence.
The Manchester United striker has scored a 2-0 victory over Perth Glory 2-0 in the Optus stadium – and was proof that killer instinct Solskjaer thought he'd make him a goal to 25 goals.
Rashford was told he would lead United's attack on the next term, which would have prompted Romelu Lukaku to look for an outing for Old Trafford this summer.
And while Lukaku was out of the opening game of the club's pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East, Rashford badured Solskjaer of a winning start.
It was a clbad moment orchestrated by Paul Pogba's back heel at the edge of the box.
When the ball rolled into the surface, Rashford shot in a flash and led a first attempt to overtake Liam Reddy.
James Garner doubled United's lead four minutes from the end of the match, beating backup goalkeeper Tando Velaphi.
Solskjaer desperately needed to return to football after a summer of uncertainty out of the field regarding Pogba and Lukaku.
And the absence of the latter in the night has raised new questions about his future.
While Inter Milan opens negotiations on the Belgian international this week, it has been the focus of all the attention in Perth.
This intensified after he missed an open training session at WACA on Thursday. And when his name was left out of the 24-man team to face Perth, this seemed to be an additional clue that he would be about to leave Old Trafford.
His absence was officially attributed to a "slight trouble", sources of the club saying he would return for Wednesday's game in Leeds.
But, with Lukaku's desperate desire, he will remain at the center of attention during United's tour.
That's why Rashford's goal will be a relief for Solskjaer – justifying why he believes the 21-year-old has the potential to lead his attack.
But 50,206 fans had to wait the second half to see the attacker.
Instead, United started with Anthony Martial as center forward. Daniel James (below) made his debut on the left and Tahith Chong on the right.
The new recruit, James, looked brilliant from the start – frequently demanding the ball and moving forward.
An early center should have paid off, but no United player has played rushing into the penalty box.
United created few chances despite dominant possession – Ashley Young's free-kick whistling on a 25-yard post and Jesse Lingard's goal of forcing Reddy's fingertips rescue.
Solskjaer changed completely at half-time with Pogba, Rashford and Wan-Bissaka.
Immediately, United attacked with more speed and intent.
Mason Greenwood extended Perth's defense with his shots in the box, while Angel Gomes's trick also created openings.
But it was the combination of Pogba and Rashford that allowed United to open the scoring after Perth failed to clear his lines.
The Perth Australians were guilty of creating problems again when Garner doubled United's lead a few moments after Luke Shaw. With a ruthless spin and finish, Marcus Rashford immediately started to give Gunnar Solskjaer his confidence.

Pogba could still call himself Man Utd despite his attempt to join Real Madrid
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims that Paul Pogba will be retained for the post of Manchester United captain, despite his attempts to organize a transfer to Real Madrid.
The France midfielder did not put back the armband for United's first pre-season match against Perth Glory on Saturday. Ashley Young and Juan Mata each ran 45 minutes.
But Solskjaer, who remains to decide who will succeed Captain Antonio, who has left his post, is adamant, but Pogba is resolved to badume the role of his replacement next season.
He said: "We have a lot of opportunities there and when the season starts we will announce it.
"Of course, we will have a good evaluation and see how the pre-season goes. But Ashley will wear it when he plays until we choose someone else.
When asked specifically whether Pogba was in the race, he answered "yes," adding, "I do not think it should be explained (why it is), we will discuss it later." . "
Pogba has publicly confirmed his desire to leave this summer, while his agent Mino Raiola was desperately trying to force him.
United responded by insisting that it would take him more than £ 150 million to even consider selling his signature.
FULL TIME
That's all. United took a winning start in pre-season with goals from Rashford and Garner securing a 2-0 win.
90 minutes:
We now have another 15-year-old on the field. Josh Rawlins played for the last moments of the match.
90 minutes:
50,206 spectators are present tonight, this has been confirmed.
89 minutes: Luck!
Now, Greenwood is hitting the post.
He was a real spark for United this half.
GOAL!
85 minutes: What impact of Garner!
Perth is again responsible for the fact that he has not managed to clear his lines – he plays the ball directly to Garner who is shooting over Velaphi at about 20 meters.
83 minutes: Substitution
Garner comes for Shaw.
We heard that Pogba was going to be the man to leave, but it seems that Shaw suffered a shock and went straight into the tunnel for treatment.
76 minutes: Gabriel Popovic, 15, has just arrived in Perth with his brother Kristian, 17 years old.
Gabriel is an attacker. What story does it mark.
70 minutes:
It should be noted that Mata received the armband before Pogba.
Solskjaer has identified Pogba as a potential skipper this season – but given the lingering uncertainty about his future, may have decided that it was inappropriate to name him captain today.
65 minutes:
Greenwood should have done better when we were face to face with Reddy – but he was deviating his efforts from a distance.
GOAL!
60 minutes: Rashford opens the scoring with a deadly shot on the turn.
Pogba's back heel on the edge of the box was played on the path of the attacker.
Rashford spun and made a first effort against Reddy.
51 minutes: The United attack already seems more fluid this half.
Greenwood and Gomes look very bright, Greenwood hitting the net after a pbad in the box.
SECOND PART
We are on our way again and Wan-Bissaka had his first contact almost immediately.
As promised, Solskjaer changes all his eleven and Wan-Bissaka debuts.
Full team in the second half:
Joel Pereira,
Wan Bissaka
Smalling
Rojo
Shaw
McTominay
Mata
Pogba
Rashford
Greenwood
Gomes
HALF-TIME
There are no goals at the break and there has been only a short time to convince fans to sit.
With Pogba, Rashford and Wan-Bissaka coming in the second half, the Optus stadium crowd is hoping for more.
41 minutes: United has warmed 12 substitutes while Solskjaer plans to completely change sides at halftime. He will be reasonably satisfied with the performance in the first half, but the lack of a clear chance will be a cause for concern, especially in the face of such limited opposition.
29 minutes: Save!
Lingard blows his way to the edge of the box and fires a powerful shot that is tilted by Reddy.
27 minutes: Now, Martial comes near – hitting the side net from inside the area.
United puts pressure, Lingard and Pereira bringing Perth closer to central areas.
19 minutes: Young is about to open the scoring with a 25-meter free kick that whistles just over the post.
United struggled to clear a path from open play – even if it was to keep the ball up until now.
10 minutes: It is remarkable how comfortable James looks. He is happy to be on the ball as often as possible and is good with Martial and Young.
Chong was also involved from the start – drifting from the right.
