Man Utd Wonderkid gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision to take after recent statement

Manchester United prodigy Facundo Pellistri has given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer something to think about after scoring again for the Under-23s.

The 18-year-old winger was signed with an eye to the future when he joined the Red Devils from Penarol in his native Uruguay on the last day of the summer transfer window.

But Solskjaer has already said how impressed he has been with the youngster – and the manager will have been delighted to see Pellistri score against Manchester City this weekend.

While the senior United and City stars struggled to carve out chances in a fierce Manchester derby at Old Trafford, there was no such problem for their younger counterparts, who drew 2- 2 in a Premier League 2 match.

Pellistri pulled United to a 2-1 lead with a calm finish after Ethan Galbraith scored on the spot to cancel a City opener of James McAtee.

United’s Under-23s were disappointed as Taylor Harwood-Bellis equalized to earn a point for City’s elite development team.

But Pellestri will be happy after scoring a third goal in three games for the Reservists over a span of nine days as he claims more involvement with the first team.

And he will have been encouraged by Solskjaer’s recent comments on his progress, when the United boss confirmed he is more than happy to dive into the club’s youth ranks to improve the first-team squad.

“Facundo arrived, trained with the first team and did well,” Solskjaer said earlier this month.

“We thought the time was right for him to buy some time and he played a few games on the reserves. He gradually settled down and he’s getting used to us more and more.”

Pellestri has already been on the bench for two Champions League games and is just a few months younger than Mason Greenwood, who had a decisive campaign at United last season.

After opening his United account in a 3-1 win over Southampton reserves earlier this month, Pellestri said: “It was amazing [to score].

I was really looking forward to achieving this goal. It’s my first goal and I’m really happy with it. I hope more will come.

“I’m settling in much better. I’m enjoying my time here in Manchester, at this club – with the Under 23s and with the first team.

“My teammates are very nice to me and that’s a very important reason why I feel so much better with my performances and my life here.”

Pellestri also scored in an EFL Trophy loss to Accrington Stanley last week.
