The year 2018 will not last long in the memory of many Manchester United fans as the club struggled and ended up dismissing Jose Mourinho.
But this will be the case for Ed Woodward, who received a salary increase of nearly 60%.
The executive vice president's salary has risen to more than £ 4 million a year, while the club had to pay Mourinho and his coaching staff.
This decision cost the Premier League club about 20 million pounds. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been called to save his season.
But the obvious problems under Mourinho did not stop Woodward from getting a big pay raise.
Woodward's compensation has grown from £ 2.6 million in 2016-17 to £ 4.15 million in 2017-18.
This represents a phenomenal increase of 59.4%.
But if you thought it was a big payday, Tottenham's manager, Daniel Levy, was winning even more.
The salary of the President of the Spurs was £ 6 million the same year, but there is no evidence that he had an increase with the payment of the previous "deferred" season.
Woodward will undoubtedly earn an increase for the current season if United moves to the Champions League.
Their hopes came under Mourinho, but they went in the weekend with a point over Chelsea and Arsenal.
Solskjaer was credited for the revival of Paul Pogba. Before his match against Liverpool, the manager said: "Paul has always been a larger than life character.
"He has a fantastic family but you never do favors with things like that.
"You really do not want to apologize to anyone, so of course you do not go to the Brit Awards this week.
"We know that in our last game against Liverpool, there were stories of unconcentrated players.
"It's not about that. We know that they are focused, we know that they do their best and that's only Paul who is Paul. But he helps himself by softening it a little. "
