Manbadeh Bleu Azur Multimedia Group Reporter, Manbadeh Awuni Azure

The High Court of Accra has authorized the lawyers of De Eye Group, a company at the center of a recent documentary of Multimedia Group reporter Manbadeh Awuni Azure, to serve it by substitution.

It was after the bailiffs had failed to serve him the summons, he had evaded meaning on more than 4 occasions.

The court also allowed another application to cancel the appearance of the lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini.

De Eye Group attorney, Gary Nimako, argued that, until the notice of meeting has been duly notified, the jurisdiction of the court can not be invoked, the lawyer Samson Ayenini does not so can not appear before Manbadeh Azure.

The court accepting the request to serve Manbadeh by substitution means that the notice would be posted in front of the premises of the Multimedia group and on social media.

After a period of ten days, he is deemed to have seen the summons and thus duly served.

The group De-Eye Limited sued the group Multimedia and Manbadeh Azure Awuni as a result of affirmations in the documentary aired in March.

In the documentary, Manbadeh Azure claimed that the company was training a group of pro-government militias operating from Osu Castle, a former government headquarters.

The government and the De-Eye group both denied the allegations, saying the company was a recruitment agency that did not pose a threat to Ghana's security.

In its mandate, the De-Eye Group said the company was not a "militia group", as suggested in the documentary.

The company therefore requests a declaration that the publication should be declared slanderous and defamatory.

De-Eye is also seeking 10 million Ghanaian cedis as compensatory damages for the damage to the reputation of the accused.

The company is also seeking an order directing the accused to remove such defamatory publications and to offer an unqualified apology in the same prominence as Joy TV and four Daily Graphic publications.
