A Manchester City fan revealed how doctors had told him that he was about to die after being attacked as a result of the club's victory in the Champions League at Schalke.
Paul Worth, a native of Urmston, Greater Manchester, was hit in the head after a violent confrontation with two Schalke supporters on 20 February.
He was left in a coma and stayed in a German hospital until last week.
"I have staples on the back of the head, my jaw has been restored and I've lost a tooth," said the 32-year-old Facebook player.
In a message in which he thanked fans for support, Mr. Worth said that he "could barely walk" when he was transferred to Salford Royal last week.
"Now I can go up and down the stairs and make tea and toast as part of my therapy," he added.
"I do not remember the incident.I just remember being woken up in a resuscitation unit in Germany and the doctors and nurses were telling me how much I was on the point to die."
Mr. Worth went to Germany with his family for the club's 3-2 win in the first leg of the first leg.
Those with him said that he could not speak when he woke up from his coma.
The supporter of the city now says that he faces a "long process" of physio and therapy and that he should receive the results of a CT scan on Wednesday.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the people who are concerned and who also help my family during this time," he added.
A 30-year-old man was arrested by Gelsenkirchen police after the incident and the police said he was a member of Schalke's "ultras".
City beat Schalke 7-0 in the second leg and now faces Tottenham in the quarter-finals with the first leg on 9 April.
