Manchester United has announced the asking price of the transfer to Sean Longstaff by Newcastle

Manchester United's pursuit of Sean Longstaff has been questioned by the fact that Newcastle has claimed £ 50 million from the midfield.

The MEN understood that United had contacted Newcastle on Saturday with the intention of offering £ 20 million to Longstaff, 21, but The Magpies demanded more than double. The MEN have previously reported that Newcastle did not award a specific badessment to Longstaff, which is under contract with the club before 2022.

Newcastle believes that Longstaff's valuation is fair since United has committed to pay £ 50 million to fellow 21-year-old Aaron Wan-Bissaka, last month.

Originally, United had informed the Longstaff representatives that they wanted to reach an agreement in June, but had decided to give priority to negotiations with Crystal Palace for Wan-Bissaka. Sources indicate that the MEN United operated one by one with signatures.

The offer of £ 70 million for Harry Maguire on July 1 would have surprised the Longstaff camp, which was waiting for a move from United last week. United finally joined Newcastle four days after Leicester rejected Maguire's offer to buy.

United is unlikely to be happy with Newcastle's strong badessment of Longstaff, which started only 12 times for its children's club, after its manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, stressed that they would not pay for the players.

"We are still in the market looking for new business, as I have already said," said Solskjaer on Wednesday. "But we are patient, we are Man United, we do not have to sell or pay too much, you must have the right players at the right price."

Longstaff made his Premier League debut in December and has not played since March because of an injury, but United wants to sign him as part of the midfielder's overhaul.

Solskjaer believes Longstaff is in the mold as part of the club's new recruitment campaign to recruit young British players. The departure of Rafael Benitez from Newcastle will have no impact on the future of Longstaff and Steve Bruce is expected to be announced as the club's new director.

The Premier League transfer window closes Aug. 8, three days before the United opener against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
