Darren Fletcher criticized Manchester United midfielder Fred after his loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.
United is imposed 2-1 in Molineux after finishing the match with ten men. Scott McTominay gave United the lead before Diogo Jota leveled things up.
Ashley Young was ordered for a second yellow card before a goal from Chris Smalling scored the Wolves three points.
Fletcher thought United was the best team in the defeat, but he was frustrated by the individual mistakes that cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team in the race for the top four.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the Stoke City midfielder explained why he thought Fred's mistake for the first goal was destroying the team's confidence.
"It's the frustrating part, and that's why it's better to play badly and win.
"Three points are important at this stage of the season for United's needs, it was a game of chance, United had four or five chances and did not take it, the Wolves had two or three chances and were clinics.
"Manchester United's two mistakes is the real disappointment of the match.
"The greatest thing about the courage to play, we want them to play, I felt like Fred's mistake for the first goal, the confidence of the United team and she can not afford that happen.
"Not just from Fred, but from the whole team.
"They were nervous and the Wolves took advantage.
"It's something you'll have to improve in the future, you're a Manchester United player and you can not let a little thing affect you."
