Manchester United legend Andy Cole gives advice to Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku was urged by former Old Trafford hero Andy Cole.

Lukaku had a difficult 2018/19 season and, despite the departure of Jose Mourinho, the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not yet resulted in a turnaround for the Belgian.

Solskjaer chose to put Marcus Rashford on top of a United trio with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard at his side, leaving Lukaku in the cold.

But Cole, who is second on the list of scorers in the Premier League, believes that Lukaku must simplify his game to return to the top of the hierarchy.

"I think what we have to appreciate, when you play for Manchester United, you do not have a weekend," he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club.

"I'm not disrespectful to Everton, West Brom, I think when you're in these clubs, you can spend a weekend.

"When you go to Manchester United, you should score goals, you have brought in a lot of money, there is no weekend.

"I think playing at times under the previous manager did not help me because there was no creativity in the team.

"So, he did not have many chances and the chances he got he grabbed him and he tried a little too hard.

"I think it's the worst thing as a center-forward when you try too hard and as a center-forward if your game does not start too well, that's it." where it's going.

"Just repeat yourself and say," Well, I'm just going back to base. If it happens, I'll play a touch and move.

"He has to bet on his strengths and sometimes Lukaku does not play on his strengths, his strengths are his pace and power behind."

Cole has praised Rashford's contribution since Solskjaer took over from Mourinho at Old Trafford.

"Just like Marcus is playing the moment you see, he had a good impact," he added.

"Ole mentioned that he did not really work with him on that side, he does not have to do it, just talk to him."

"When I was in Newcastle, Kevin, we finished a lot, Bryan Kidd, I was talking to him all the time, when you get into the box, crush him as hard as you can.

"Once you start doing that and they all go in, that's where you start to be a little creative.

"You start taking a few turns because your confidence has come back and that's what I was trying to do."
