David Beckham insists that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be "deserved" to be appointed permanent director of Manchester United.

Solskjaer signed a three-year deal with Old Trafford last week after returning to the club with which he was so successful in December after Jose Mourinho was sacked.

United lost just one of his 14 league games under Solskjaer and beat Watford on Saturday to return to the top four in the Premier League.

"It's great, he did an incredible job, so he deserves the contract he got," said Beckham, Manchester United legend, Sky Sports.

"He is loved by fans, players and all other club members.

"He did a good job and he will continue because the real fans love him, it's great for the club and great for him."

Beckham also praised Gareth Southgate's work as a manager in England. The Three Lions reached the semifinals of the World Cup last summer and have continued to impress since.

& # 39; C & # 39; is exciting. I was thrilled when Gareth took the lead because I think he spent enough time with the players from a very young age, said former England captain Beckham.

"To see them enter the team of the first team and the way they play – it's amazing to see."

United defeated Watford 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday but Solskjaer was not impressed with the performance and said his players appeared to be on vacation.

"It was five minutes really nervous," said Solskjaer.

"They made it difficult for us and we felt we were still on vacation or on international holidays. Both teams feel that they should have points.

"When I won trophies here, we did not play well in every game, but [today] we lacked zip, urgency and fitness. '
