The Belgian international was taken to Old Trafford by the Portuguese coach and believes that he deserves to be commended for the work he has done for two seasons.
Jose Mourinho "did a lot" for Manchester United, said Romelu Lukaku, the Portuguese deserving of respect for the work he oversaw.
After being named director of Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, an experienced coach has awarded three trophies in his first campaign.
He was left empty-handed at his second goal, but made United return to the top four in the Premier League after being runners-up behind the title champion, Manchester City.

Mourinho had to rely on this platform, but underwent a trial start for the 2018-19 campaign and was dismissed in December.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has imposed himself as his successor, overseeing eight successive victories, but Lukaku is reluctant to take advantage of the differences between the manager who signed it for £ 75m ($ 99m) and the one who is currently at the helm.
The Belgian international striker said Eleven sports: "I will not compare the two managers.
"I think Mourinho did a lot for this club.
"He has won trophies, so I have a lot of respect for him.
"He is the coach who signed me."
Lukaku had almost time to play when he was in good shape with Mourinho at the helm of the 25-year-old, enjoying the unqualified support of a boss who trusted him with unwavering confidence.
This is no longer the case under Solskjaer, Marcus Rashford having played the role of leader on the front under a new regime.
Lukaku has not yet started his Premier League match with United's interim manager, but he enjoys being part of a team looking for Champions League qualification once again and potential for cup success.
He added: "Solskjaer has just started his story here.

Lukaku was included from the start in his last match, after collecting two badists in a 3-1 FA Cup fourth round win at Arsenal.
He hopes Solskjaer will be a hot topic in his display, while United is back in action in the Premier League on Tuesday when Burnley visits Old Trafford.
