Daniel James has been the best interpreter of Manchester United's pre-season coaching and has impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his work pace and quality.

The winger arrived in a £ 18 million contract from Swansea City earlier this summer, having debuted for the Swans that in February 2018.

The fans did not know much about James, but the winger's fast-paced videos were quickly shared online, while his goal against Brentford – in which he racked up 84 yards in 8.4 seconds – won in power.

United is currently in Western Australia for the first part of their tour and the men of Solskjaer will face Perth Glory Saturday in their first test of the summer.

James is expected to have a role in Down Under and the Times claims that the midfielder has been Solskjaer's most impressive player so far in the tour.

Solskjaer alluded to his pleasure with James last week, saying the midfielder was already the benchmark for training.

"Daniel has already set the benchmark and standard for work pace and attitude in training," said Solskjaer.

"Whoever you talk to later, if you ask questions about it, it will be a pleasure to see."

Solskjaer hopes to add to his team in the last three weeks of the window but the Norwegian has vowed not to "pay too much" for his goals.

United was surprised by Newcastle's valuation of Sean Longstaff for £ 50m, while Leicester City is seeking £ 90m for Harry Maguire.
