Manchester United vs Man City player ratings: poor Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw – Samuel Luckhurst

[ad_1]

Dean henderson

Made his career debut at Old Trafford and saved well from Riyad Mahrez after conceding a soft goal. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Could have asked Phil Foden to switch wings with his patsy, Raheem Sterling. Settles in the second half, although City is not so adventurous. 5

Victor Lindelof

A return accomplished for the most part, but there was no defensive authority in dealing with John Stones’ goal. 6

Harry maguire

Barely put a foot wrong in the first half against the side who wanted to sign him but then looked at the ball and not Stones. 5

Luke shaw

Let Sterling get away from him for a first chance, but did commendably otherwise with the Town winger. Let Stones get to the point. 5

Scott McTominay

Cannily left the ball to Bruno Fernandes to test Zack Steffen, but had to rely on defensive positioning to try and slow City down. 5

Fred

More restrained in his role as a deep and disciplined midfielder with his passing, which compromised United’s offensive fluidity. 6

Bruno Fernandes

Tested Steffen early on but so loose with the ball and became desperate in the second half. Sooner or later a slack night was inevitable. 4

Paul pogba

Wandering touches at opportunistic times and has never commanded the game as well as Ilkay Gundogan or Kevin De Bruyne. 5

Marcus Rashford

Did not run enough to Oleksandr Zinchenko and took careless offside on several occasions. Sulking at times. 4

Anthony Martial

Edinson Cavani would likely have started if he had been available and Martial was more lethargic than the Uruguayan, nine years his senior. 3

Subs

Mason greenwood

Had no impact. 4

Donny van de Beek

I have a cameo. 5

Director

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Cavani’s absence exposed United in the second half after losing 1-0 and the time for the first change was too late. Martial was somehow allowed to continue. 4
