Imphal: In order to fight against the hepatitis virus and to control it, Manipur is ready to register on Sunday at the National Viral Hepatitis Control (NVHCP) program of the National Mission of the health (NHM). The program will provide free medication and medicine to people with hepatitis C.
The announcement was made Saturday on the approach of World Hepatitis Day, under the theme "Investing in the elimination of hepatitis", organized by the section of Gastroenterology Department of Medicine of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in collaboration with the Community Network for Empowerment (JNIMS) (CoNE) at the JNIMS Auditorium.
"The National Program for the Control of Viral Hepatitis (NVHCP) was launched last year and provides for the free administration of drugs to patients with hepatitis C. Similarly, in Manipur we will join the program starting tomorrow. [Sunday] and patients will start benefiting from that moment, "said Dr. N Surajkumar, badistant professor at JNIMS.
According to Dr. Surajkumar, patients with hepatitis A and E need to drink enough boiled water and food to consume hygienically, while for patients with hepatitis B, you have to be tested and vaccinated accordingly.
Meanwhile, for hepatitis C, one must take advantage of the free drug services provided by the state. "If we do that, it will help eliminate hepatitis by 2030," he added.
According to reports, 5 out of 100 people in the world suffer from hepatitis B and C, which is a chronic liver disease. The chronic disease toll in the world is 14 lakh per year, which is far worse than the number of lives lost due to HIV / AIDS, reports said.
