"It's more a story of origin and a character study of a mental patient"
Marc Maron talked about how the next Joker The original film starring Joaquin Phoenix takes a more "interesting" approach than other comics films.
The actor, actor and host of the WTF Podcast spoke to NME before his next tour in the UK. Among his recent busy schedule of stand-up concerts and appearing in glowMaron also took on the role of Ted Marco alongside Phoenix and Robert De Niro in the upcoming restart of Todd Phillips.
"I finished that a while ago," said Maron NME. "We had just finished the third season of glowI spent a week in New York and did a scene with Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix. I could not believe it was happening, but once I got there, I felt like, "Let's go. Let's do the work.
While Maron had already criticized comic books, he is confident that he and Phoenix as a main character will look more cerebral than others.
"I think it's a very interesting approach to this world," continued Maron. "I made a critical judgment about comic books and had a bit of a break in the press because I'm a hypocrite. Whatever I think, if you get a call and someone asks you, "Hey, do you want to do a scene with Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix?"
"If it's relative to what I think about Marvel movies, it's like," Yes, of course I'm going to do it. "Strangely, it's not that kind of movie. is more a story of origin and a study of the character of a mental patient who becomes the Joker. "
He added: "It's more an intimate and realistic film with a very specific scope. It'll be really interesting to see how it goes.
As for "the honor" of working with Robert De Niro, Maron said he was happy to learn how humane and humble he was.
"It was a pleasure to meet him and see him work," revealed Maron. "I was not really out of me, because they become people very quickly. When you do not shoot, you hang around. Yet he is Robert De Niro and the intricacies of how he does what he does are innate and amazing to watch. He's a nice guy and a bit shy, but it was a great experience and not too annoying. "
He added, "Joaquin is another story. I did not really have the chance to talk to him because he was rather immersed in the Joker. I was just like: "I'm not going to bother this guy". It was good. You just have to respect the process of people. "
