Playback striker Marc McNulty opened when he left the club on the day of the transfer deadline.
The Scottish striker, who joined the Royals only from Coventry City last summer, returned to his home country to join Hibernian on the last day of the January window.
McNulty signed a loan agreement with Hibs for the remainder of the season, but did not rule out a permanent move north of the border if the move proved successful.
"It depends, the new director from Reading came in and said that I was free to find something else," he told Edinburgh Live.
"I am only lent until the summer, so I will have to contact the manager and whatever happens during the summer, we will see what the script is."
McNulty has only scored one goal in 15 games with Reading during the first half of the campaign, just six times.
McNulty, who scored 28 goals in Ligue 2 last year, helped Coventry secure his promotion in the play-offs.
However, after finding the limited playing time under Paul Clement, McNulty's miserable time with Reading was over (at least temporarily) when the new director, Jose Gomes, told him that he was free to find a new club in the January window.
"It's football, I'm not the first person this happened to and I'm sure I will not be the last one," he admitted.
"It can be difficult when a change of manager happens, especially when the club may not have a certain philosophy of the game, while the Hibs have a way of playing. They play offensive football.
"I do not think they're going to bring in a manager who plays one at the front and who defends for 90 minutes and tries to score a goal.
"It was a question of choosing the right club, I think the Hibs have a style of play that suits me and that's an important reason for me to come."
McNulty has also been the subject of Sunderland's interest in the window of transfers, although rumors linking him to a return to Coventry City and fellow League One, Luton Town, are largely overwhelmed.
The attacker was in Hibs' books when he was young before breaking into Livingstone and he stated that the lure of the return on Easter Road was too good to be denied.
"It could be said that it's a second chance to do well here," he added.
"My family and I talked about it and we are still getting caught.
"To be in a club the size of Hibs, coming from the city and knowing a lot of people – the phone went crazy.
"It's great, I'm happy to be part of the club and I hope we can now get results."
