Industrial production in Japan fell in March for the first time in two months. Production was down 0.9% from the previous month.
The Ministry of Economy released the latest data on Friday.
Officials said the decline in production of cars and semiconductor machines was leading the decline, in part because of the economic slowdown in China.
The ministry downgraded its overall badessment, saying that industrial production has recently had a weak tone.
However, in the future, the ministry expects a 2.7% increase in production in April and 3.6% in May.
