Marco Silva agrees to take over at Fulham after refusing Fenerbahce | Fulham

Marco Silva has agreed to take charge of Fulham on a three-year contract, after turning down an offer from Fenerbahce to take over from the Championship club.

The former Hull City and Watford manager has been unemployed since leaving Everton in December 2019. At Fulham, he will replace Scott Parker, who has joined Bournemouth.

Silva has had mixed results in England since joining Hull City in early 2017. He oversaw a resumption of results but couldn’t prevent their relegation. He joined Watford that summer and the squad got off to a good start, but their form plunged after he was linked with Everton’s job. He was fired in January 2018 and took the reins from Goodison four months later.

Once again he got off to a good start and Everton finished eighth in their debut season but the second campaign did not go as planned with the Portuguese being sacked in December 2019 with the 18th Premier League side.

In an interview with The Guardian in May, he said, “I want to be ready for the next challenge. I watch a lot of games in many different leagues. I always watch the Premier League but not only this league: you have to be ready, I never stop.

Fulham was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2020-21 season, finishing in 18th place, nine points behind. Parker’s side played good football and achieved some memorable results, including a 1-0 away win over Liverpool in March, but failed to build on that.

Parker’s departure at the end of the season came as no surprise, with Fulham chairman Shahid Khan saying: “Through promotion and relegation Scott has always enjoyed my support as a coach- chief. However, Scott’s departure does not shake my confidence in any way. We will be hiring a new head coach who can meet our promotion goal and who is committed to Fulham and his supporters. And we will field a team that will react, compete and win. Forward.”
