The Ligue 1 has created countless promising young prospects in recent years, the latest of which appears to be EA Guingamp star Marcus Thuram.
The 21-year-old winger has played for his club this season and has thus regained his name linked to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.
Many who have seen him play will tell you that he is destined for fame. If you have not heard of him yet, take notes. Here are five things to know about the French wonderkid.
His father was very good at football
A footballer who follows in his father's footsteps is not new. However, few players have a legacy to match Marcus Thuram. His last name tells you something?
How about Lilian Thuram, several-time Series A champion and back-winner in the 1990's and 2000's World Cup? Yes, it's his father.
Thuram Senior is widely regarded as one of the best advocates in the history of this sport. Marcus often has a lot of hype. Expectations surround him are great, but he shows no sign of receding.
He's not your typical winger
When you think of a winger, you tend to think of small slender figures that use their speed to surprise their opponents. However, it is certainly not Marcus Thuram.
Standing at about 6 2, Thuram is an incredibly powerful winger who is not afraid to use his physique as a weapon. He is just as comfortable winning heads as sprinting in front of his defender, and he is as versatile as possible.
His size has even seen him play a big scorer role in the past and is proud to make a difference in any field of the field.
It can be a little hot head
Everyone likes to see a player who does not hide from a physical battle, but Thuram can sometimes go too far. He has already seen two red cards this season and must learn to control himself.
He lasted only seven minutes against Montpellier in October before being surprised striking his defender. He found red just five games later. An imprudent high boot caught an opponent while attempting a ball.
Neither incident was a real malice, but his disciplinary record would be a source of concern for any potential buyer.
He likes when fans criticize him
With a surname like Thuram, Marcus will always meet fans who expect him the best and blame him for not being as good as his father. This often happens too much for young players, but the 21-year-old loves it.
S addressing the Team (via Goal), Thuram insisted:
He once abandoned a pair of Lionel Messi boots
However, he has already committed the biggest mistake that a young footballer could commit – he threw a pair of worn out boots from Lionel Messi.
In an interview with AFP (via Goal), Thuram confessed to returning a pair of Argentine boots when he was younger, when his father was in Barcelona. He said:
