Marvel’s MODOK is currently heading towards its May 21 release date on Hulu, bringing with it a combination of hhigh level comic dubbing, Robot chicken-honé animation, and some of Marvel’s deadliest weirdos designed just to kill. And while we understand that there is a parcel Marvel TV projects out there right now, we have to admit that we were deeply charmed by the show’s appearance at WonderCon @ Home today – and in particular by a clip brought to you by series co-creator Jordan Blum, which features an updated, science-y crazy take on a classic trope: The Wizard’s Duel (i.e. two incredibly powerful people throwing weapons at each other / spells / knives more and more creative until one of them leaves or dies.)
(If the time stamp on the onboarding isn’t working properly, the fight clip starts at around 36 minutes.)
In this case we seega throwdown between MODOK holder of Patton Oswalt and his former rival Monica Rappaccini (Wendi McLendon-Covey), aka AIM Scientist Supreme. The end result is a really effective little tutorial on escalating madness, as the two super-scientists battle an increasingly silly set of weapons, counter-weapons, poisons, antidotes, and, once again, knives. That’s a hell of a selling point for the show – as is the news of some of the guest cast members who lined up for it today., including the hinfo that Jon Hamm will play the series version of Iron Man, Bill Hader will play the guy-we-always-skipped-over-in-the- roleEssential-Manual-of-the-Marvel-Universe Angarr The Screamer, and (in a reminder to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) Nathan Fillion is finally playing Wonder Man.
Marvel’s MODOK lands on Hulu on May 21. Bring the howling explosion clone babies and unlikely animal friends.
