Matthijs de Ligt's agent, Mino Raiola, prefers Liverpool's option in Barcelona

The race to the hottest wonder of Europe is continuing. The latest rumors give Liverpool an edge over the European champions in the pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt.

The captain of Ajax, aged 19, is expected to move this summer after an exceptional season in Eredivisie and the Champions League. He was originally supposed to join teammate Frenkie de Jong, who has already made his transfer to Barcelona this summer.

However, discussions with those at Camp Nou worked as an agent for the young star (the infamous Mino Raiola) for the best financial package.

While Barcelona are understood as the first choice destination of De Ligt, Catalan daily Sport claims that there is another four clubs in the running, namely: Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Liverpool.

While the links between United and Juventus have been discussed in recent weeks, SPORT now claims that, at least with regard to Raiola, PSG and Liverpool are the preferred options.

Raiola seems to prefer PSG and Liverpool as they are more likely to "meet his requirements" – despite the elephant in the FFP hall for Ligue 1 champions and persistent rumors that the Reds would not be interested in big expenses this summer.

The report says Liverpool ahead of PSG in the lineup because of the player's international relationship with Virgil van Dijk, while it's probably worth noting (from Raiola's point of view) that Liverpool was at the top of the rankings for most of the fees paid to agents last year.

De Ligt, who is expected to eventually move for a sum north of 60 million pounds, recently spoke to Dutch TV channel RTL4 about his future, quoted by SPORT.

He said: "There are different options and I really want to choose the best I am excited about what could happen in the near future, but I also try to stay calm.I consider this a challenge – this is There are several options and I really want to choose the best one.Of course, one option is better than another.

"Life abroad can be difficult, but I'm still an ordinary Dutchman, I'm no different from others, maybe living abroad will be more intense for me."
