Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino sent a strong warning to Manchester City ahead of the quarter-finals of the Champions League next month.
The Lilywhites' award for a 4-0 aggregate victory over Bundesliga Borussia Dortmund in the round of 32 is a two-legged match against their Premier League rivals with a semifinal place to win.
If all goes as planned, the first leg will take place on 9 April in the huge new stadium of 62,062 places, after UEFA has insisted that the Spurs play at least one match on the pitch before to organize a European match.
Two test events have been announced. a Under-18 game against Southampton on March 24 and a Tottenham Legends match against Inter Milan six days later. If they get the corresponding security certificates, the stadium will open on April 3 against the Crystal Palace Premier League.
Then, all the focus will be on the visit of City because the Spurs will not be in action the following weekend, as Brighton and Hove Albion are ironically engaged in the action of the FA Cup against the team of Pep Guardiola .
Pochettino admitted that he would have preferred to avoid another England team, but says the new stadium could be his secret weapon at the next meeting for the Champions League.
"Any of the four English teams would have preferred not to face another prime minister, but the draw is what it is," he said, as reported by Mundo. Deportivo.
"The City is a team that has the obligation to win, but not only since Pep's arrival with [Roberto] Mancini and with [Manuel] Pellegrini too.
"And we will compete with the incentive to launch our new stadium against them and play against 62,000 people who will transmit a particular energy."
Argentina has also dreamed of a Champions League final, where it would love to face a Barcelona team that, he said, would have too much to do for Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
"To play the final against Barcelona, where do I sign?" he added. "He has players of the highest level, Leo Messi, who is a genius, the best in the world, and Valverde does a great job, although some teams like City or Juventus also have options because also built to win these guys of competitions ".
"It's a team that, in recent years, has been built to win great things.Sure, it has quality, even though it seems to me that Barcelona is a step or a step beyond- above."
The Spurs and Barcelona were separated last week in the draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals. If they meet again this season, they will meet at Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1st.
