One of Ghana’s retired Akan stage actresses, Mavis Yeboah, known as Maame Gyanwaa, recently gave an interview to Zion Felix on her YouTube channel where she shared some of her struggles.
Maame Gyanwaa said that life after her career has not been the best as she has nothing to show for her career after 20 years in the industry.
The sad veteran mentioned that one of the reasons for her current condition was the low income she earned from acting.

She shared that she could be paid as low as Ghc5 from an acting gig and it shows how bad the pay was.

Maame Gyanwaa said she managed to buy land and build a four bedroom house on it with some money she earned from side activities.
The mother added that she had to sell her property for as little as 12,000 Ghc after her son fell ill.
She also mentioned that while acting didn’t pay off well, she did reap some benefits from the fame it brought.
Gyanwaa shared that she receives free products and services every now and then through her acting.
