• Speaker reacted with fury to reports of corruption at TOR perpetuated by some staff
• TOR IMC banned some 14 employees for stealing from the company
• The ban comes after an investigation by the interim management committee of TOR
A lecturer on governance at Central University, Dr Okyere Ankrah, reacted with fury to the announcement of the ban of some staff at the Tema oil refinery over allegations of corruption that caused the loss of the crown corporation.
The company’s interim management committee announced in a recent press release that it had banned some of its employees following an investigation into the loss of storage and transfer of products at the company.
Among other things, the IMC said it discovered cases of corruption, including the disappearance of some 18 reels of electric cables worth GH ¢ 10.4 million.
Also listed is the disappearance of some 105,927 liters of diesel on September 4, 2021.
“As a result, a number of staff who hold various positions of responsibility in relation to the product transfer have been questioned and banned, pending the outcome of the investigations,” the statement said.
However, in an interview with Okay FM monitored by GhanaWeb, Dr Okyere Ankrah wondered why the staff who were found to be accomplices are under interdiction instead of being in police custody.
“They are at home enjoying food and television freely while they should cool off in a guard post. Instead, they were banned, such a bad word in English that my grandmother doesn’t understand, “he fumed.
According to Dr Okyere, the actions of the employees are unforgivable given the hardships ordinary Ghanaians go through as these people siphon off resources.
“See how people are suffering in this country. Ghanaian women wake up at 2 a.m. just to go out and make ends meet. After hustling in the sun all day, these poor women are taken and when the money is raised for national development, these unscrupulous employees end up stealing everything.
“It’s not limited to the 14 banned people; it’s quite a cabal and it’s not the first time. Some leaders must have known, but they remained silent, ”he said.
While attributing this development to a governance deficit, Dr Ankrah has rained heavy curses on the TOR employees responsible for perpetuating corruption in the company.
“When you get paid at the end of the month and you look at the tax deducted from your payslip, you ask exactly where that money is going. The speakers declared the strike because of the money. But do you think that the stolen money could have been avoided by the strike? “, He wondered.
“I pray that they all suffer from an incurable disease. Whatever property acquired with the stolen money, let it be destroyed. I curse them and do it with pain,” he said. .
TOR’s interim management committee announced earlier this week that some staff had been arrested over the disappearance of 105,927 liters of diesel that had belonged to a bulk oil distribution company on September 4, 2021.
The IMC also mentioned the disappearance of 18 reels of electric cables worth GH ¢ 10.4 million in the TOR warehouse.
In their statement, the IMC said its investigations are being conducted in accordance with process.
“While the investigations are ongoing, we urge all staff to remain calm and to be assured that the investigations are conducted in accordance with legal process. Anyone cleared in the process will be reminded of the ban while any form of liability will be dealt with in accordance with the law, ”the committee said.
