.
Simon Mayo responded to industry criticism following his comments on local radio during a recent interview in a magazine.
In one twitter feed Tuesday afternoon, he suggested that the remarks in the Mail's Event supplement were "perhaps clumsily expressed" – and that they concerned the equality rather than the standard of local radio broadcasters.
In an interview about his badociation with Jo Whiley on Radio 2, he was quoted as follows: "I had this horror of seeing them pick some one from the local radio and say," You're going to co -present with this person. "I walked. "
In his response, Mayo wrote: "Some remarks on local radio, if necessary.
"Local radio has always been and will remain the bastion of broadcasting in this country. Some of the biggest broadcasters I've ever met come from local radio …
"The late Denis McCarthy of Radio Nottingham (where I started) was a legend, while BRMB's Ross was a source of inspiration. The point of co-presentation (perhaps clumsily expressed) was simply a point of equality. Hence my suggestion to work with Jo. It's really all that.
The original comments of this weekend have attracted a lot of criticism from the actors of the radio sector.
Quote from Simon Mayo: he could work with Jo Whiley as she is a "good broadcaster, I had this horror of seeing them pick some one from the local radio". The arrogance of these baders never ceases to amaze me. Who knows if they are born with or acquire it ?! Thanks again.

"I had this horror of seeing them pick some one from the local radio" to co-host the @ BBCRadio2 said @ simonmayo.
It's unworthy of you. I may not understand that I did not want a B-list TV, but many good local broadcasters are ready to make progress: https://t.co/oDHUhpyFXZ– Richard Horsman (@leedsjourno) February 4, 2019
@ simonmayo Simon! I was wondering if you had been misquoted in the @RadioToday Article? I know a lot of talented and extraordinary presenters / broadcasters working on local radio. So I think your comments, if they are true, are totally out of date. The local radio is great

So disappointed by Simon Mayo. As a person who has worked on local radio for more than 20 years, I am proud of the content broadcast on local radio. Having produced award-winning series in New York and Sony, I did not know I did not have so much talent. Local radio must be celebrated.

Simon must be misquoted here. Surely … it must be … I would like to talk with him on my local radio show about it.

Try to take the @ simonmayo comments on local radio presenters with a pinch of salt as it's a Daily Mail article … but I'm not sure this is the kind of thing they would be trying to make sensationalize. ?

C & # 39; @ simonmayo to be condescending and smiling about his show on Radio 2: "I had this horror of seeing them pick someone from the local radio and say," You are going to co-present with this person. "… I would have walked. respect for this comment.

Seriously @ simonmayo did you really say that ?! Please let me introduce you @ Claire7Carter @fayehatcher @ Louhannan – you would be very lucky to have these women "picked" on local radio! You've been ripped off the local radio yourself! #forgotwhereyoucamefrom

Simon Mayo reveals that he thought he was on Radio 2 at the age of 94 while he was talking about the release of a bitter station for the first time https://t.co / tIBFt3OCMK @ simonmayo Someone from the local radio !!! What a ridiculous idea !! Good luck with the new show x
