The result gives France six points in its first two games and the place ahead of Turkey, which also won 4-0 on Monday, on the goal difference. From the beginning, the Mbappe movement hypnotized Icelanders, although its contribution to the first goal after 11 minutes was simple.

Visitors cleared a corner only until Benjamin Pavard. The right back pbaded the ball to Mbappe, only left. The young star had the time to aim at his cross which Samuel Umititi met at the next pole with a head that looked from inside the far post and into the goal.

Four minutes later, Giroud nearly headed for another, from a Pavard crossbut Hannes Halldorsson jumped and stretched to overturn the ball. For the next 45 minutes, France, which have never lost against Iceland, gave the impression that they had moved up a gear and that they were content to seize the long-range shooting opportunities that allowed Iceland's defense.

Iceland meanwhile worked bravely and managed to force the occasional little threat. After 68 minutes, Iceland was again punished for failing to distance themselves. France moved the ball to Pavard who drove a cross from the right. Halldorsson attracted in a desperate dive for a balloon he could not reach.

Olivier Giroud threw the ball into the empty net to score his 35th goal in France. This placed him in third position on the list of all-time scorers of France, breaking the tie with David Trezeguet. The Chelsea striker is followed only by Michel Platini, 41, and Thierry Henry, leader of all time by 51 years. Gaps have begun to appear in the Icelandic defense.

Mbappe added a third after 78 minutes. Antoine Griezmann slipped a pbad between two defenders and Mbappe, an attacker who took a shy challenge and slipped the ball past Halldorson. Six minutes later, Mbappe returned the help Thanks to a good rear wheel, Griezmann crossed the frozen back line of Iceland to hit the ball in the corner of the goal.

The defeat continued a miserable race for Iceland whose victory in Andorra on Friday was their only victory in a competitive match since November 2017. The next match of France is far in Turkey June 8th. The same evening, Iceland welcomes Albania.
