According to the group, which staged an animated protest last Friday to challenge the president's ruling, Mr. Effah is not a native of Keta, but rather of Anlo's constituency where he would have held the post of Financial Secretary of the NPP constituency until February 2018.
The group members, dressed in red placards and holding placards, sang war songs and danced while walking in the main streets of Keta. On their posters and petitions, they discredited the candidate and called for the withdrawal of his candidacy.
Prior to Friday's protest, the group petitioned the president on Monday through Regional Minister Archibald Letsa and copied the chairs and leaders of the Minister of Local Government and NPP.
The group therefore demanded the replacement of Mr. Effah by a member of the base of the constituency, on pain of risking increased resistance from members.

In response to the protest and doubts about Effah's appointment, Elikem Sewordor, the organizer of NPP's Keta constituency, called false accusations against the MCE candidate.

He stated that the claims against the candidate were absurd, particularly when Effah was a full member of the NPP card in Keta constituency where he lives and votes at each election.

Mr. Sewordor, who did not know what could lead his party members to deceive the public, alleged that the aggrieved party members may have acted out of disappointment that their favorite candidate was not named.
