Measles alert in the cities of New South Wales and Queensland

Residents of the Gold Coast Airport and several cities on the north coast of New South Wales have been warned to remain alert to the symptoms of measles after two tourists caught the disease in Asia.

NSW Health said Sunday that two young travelers had probably contracted the infection while they were in the Philippines in mid-March and were sick before they arrived on the Gold Coast on March 30th. .

The two men then traveled to Pottsville and Cabarita stores on April 2 before being treated at Murwillumbah and Tweed Hospital the next day.

All Scoot TR6 pbadengers on March 30 or at the same locations as travelers were advised to be vigilant regarding measles symptoms, such as coughing or rash, until the 22 April.

Last month, a young woman caught the disease while she was in a medical clinic in Eastwood, in northwestern Sydney.

She went to the clinic in the presence of a contagious patient who contracted the disease in Thailand.

Another woman in her forties also contracted the infection while she was in the Northern Territory and shortly thereafter attended a number of public events in Melbourne.

The NSW North Coast (90.6%) and Gold Coast (92.2%) primary health networks have one of the lowest rates of fully immunized five-year-olds in Australia.

It was confirmed that two babies had caught the infection in Sydney earlier this week.
