The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and its partner organizations for press freedom in 14 other West African countries jointly asked President Akuffo-Addo to intervene personally to ensure the safety of Manbadeh Azure Awuni , from Joy News.
The petition follows threats received by the reporter as a result of his investigation report on the De-Eye group, a self-defense group aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The petitioners have indicated that the recent badbadination of Ahmed Suale and various acts of violation of journalists unpunished against journalists make the threats against Manbadeh very serious.
The group further stated: "Threats to journalists for their work may intimidate and censor them, and in fact other journalists, to continue their work as a legitimate journalist."
The statement adds that "such threats also undermine the freedom of the press and the environment of Ghana's freedom of expression".
